Years ago, some creaky old guy called me that. I found the label quaint, but accurate.
Starting in 1982, I spent 36 years as a reporter and copy editor, the last two-thirds of that with The Sacramento Bee. I also wrote more than 200 travel stories, many of which you can find on this vlog’s ‘Paper clips webpages.
Travel writing was my rogue job, my guilty pleasure. But the newspaper industry cratered and I had to move on.
Now, the creaky old guy is me. Talk about a quaint, accurate label! I can never rekindle my travel-writing life, but I can reimagine it. Voila the Up the Creak vlog. Thanks for sampling it! Safe travels …
